Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Regular Show and Adventure Time are among the shows that will broadcast in high definition on the new Cartoon Network HD.
The HD simulcast will go live on Sky on September 14, ahead of the 18th anniversary of the channel’s UK launch on September 17. It is the first HD launch in UK from parent Turner Broadcasting, though the broadcaster already operates HD channels in Germany and the Nordic region. Turner said it was “exploring opportunities” to take Cartoon Network HD into continental Europe.
Also available to watch in HD will be The Amazing World of Gumball, an animated sitcom that follows the misadventures of the Wattersons, a regular family in the irregular town of Elmore. Gumball will debut on Cartoon Network on September 5.
The trend of re-imagining live action series has not been lost on Cartoon Network, which plans a new version ’80s animation Thundercats.
