Buyers line up for TVN

August 12, 2011 10.17 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

At least five leading European and global media companies are interested in acquiring the Polish national commercial broadcaster TVN, according to its president Markus Tellenbach.

Speaking to the local press, he added that talks with potential buyers are likely to start in the next few weeks.

Although Tellenbach did not give the names of any interested parties, they are widely believed to include Vivendi, which is behind Canal+ and Polish DTH platform Cyfra+, as well as Time Warner, a shareholder in CME, one of the leading media companies in the CEE region.

News of the interest in TVN came despite what were generally viewed as disappointing Q2 financial results.

This resulted in the value of TVN shares falling by almost 7%. TVN’s interests include the DTH platform n and its sister service TNK.
