Kosmos TV, the longest-established pay-TV service in Russia, will soon see a change in ownership.
Vedomosti reports that the country’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has granted AFK Sistema permission to take over the 50% of the company it does not already own.
At present Kosmos TV operates as a joint venture between AFK Sistema and the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network (RTRS).
Kosmos TV was launched in 1991 and as of Q1 last year was known to have only around 35,000 subscribers.
An MMDS service, its biggest appeal to AFK Sistema is that it holds frequencies in the 2.5-2.7 GHz range, which have been allocated to future 4G networks employing LTE technology.
