The Czech Senate has amended the restrictions on advertising on CT2 and CT4, two of the public broadcaster’s four channels.
As a result, according to HN, only CT2 and CT4 are likely carry advertising from next year, with commercials being withdrawn from CT1 and news-based CT24.
The proceeds of advertising will be used to finance sports and cultural programming on CT2 and CT4.
The amendments will also result in the disappearance of teleshopping on CT.
Although the public broadcaster is expected to lose around CZK180 million (€7.4 million) as a result of the changes, it has become less dependent on advertising in recent years, in large part thanks to increases in receiver licence fees.
