The Romanian incumbent telco Romtelecom ended the second quarter with a combined total of 1,222,336 subscribers to its DTH, IPTV and cable services, a 30.9% increase on a year earlier.
Its cable operation NextGen more than quadrupled its RGU (Revenue Generating Units) over the same period, while the number of broadband subscribers rose by 23.1% to 1,084,555.
Romtelecom’s revenues amounted to €166.1 million, 7.1% less than a year earlier, while EBITDA rose by 19.7% to €29.2 million.
Its loss was reduced from €41.5 million to €12 million.
Although Romtelecom’s owner OTE does not provide a breakdown for the TV subscriber total, the DTH platform Dolce is the most successful of the three operations in terms of subscriber numbers.
Meanwhile in its home market Greece, OTE’s IPTV operation ended Q2 with 54,400 subscribers, or 78.9% more than in the same period last year.
The company as whole had a net income of €62.2 million in the second quarter compared to a loss of €60.8 million in Q2 2010.
