The leading Polish commercial broadcaster Polsat is likely to work closely with the mobile company Polkomtel once the latter’s acquisition by the entrepreneur Zygmunt Solorz-Zak is confirmed by the competition authority UOKiK.
Speaking to Gazeta Wyborcza, Solorz-Zak said that Polkomtel would have access to Polsat’s programme library and may also sell receivers for the DTH service Cyfrowy Polsat.
He added that he would like the interactive media platform ipla, which is operated by the Polsat subsidiary Redefine, to carry programming by the public broadcaster TVP and national commercial station TVN, which operate rival services.
At present ipla shows content from Polsat and TV4, along with several hundred US movies.
Solorz-Zak also refused to rule out the possibility of ipla being taken over by Cyfrowy Polsat or Polkomtel at a future date.
Although Solorz-Zak ruled out any more media acquisitions in the near future, he conceded that he is interested in investing in fibre-optic infrastructure and cable networks.
