Horror Channel is to launch in the Italian market on September 6. The Chello Zone channel will replace Fantasy in the region.
Capacity has been secured on Sky Italia with Horror Channel focusing on the darker side of cinema and TV with films, series and special events for fans of the horror genre.
“Horror Channel has already proved to be a great success in the UK and we are confident that it will rapidly secure a loyal fan base in Italy,” said Louise Cottrell, VP affiliate sales for Chello Zone.
At launch Horror Channel will screen acquired hit film, Sorority Row (pictured) and Canadian TV series ReGenesis. Starring Rumer Willis and Carrie Fisher, Sorority Row features a group of sorority sisters trying to cover up the death of their housemate after a prank goes wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer. ReGenesis is a futuristic drama starring Peter Outerbridge as scientist David Sandström, the leader of a team of medical experts investigating unusual advances in biotechnology.
Horror Channel originally launched in the UK in May 2004 and was acquired by Chello Zone in 2005. In the UK it is the second most popular free-to-air movie channel in Sky Homes, 5.5 million adults tuned into Horror Channel UK during the second quarter of 2011.
