Steady quarter from Telenor

July 21, 2011 10.29 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Telenor’s broadcast division has posted revenues of NOK1,791 million (€229.3 million) for the second quarter, up from NOK1,734 million in the same period last year.

Those for Canal Digital DTH, which accounted for the lion’ share of the total, rose by only NOK2 million over the period to NOK1,043 million while those for satellite broadcasting fell from NOK275 million to NOK243 million.

Norkring showed strong growth, up from NOK190 million to NOK237 million, while Conax rose by only NOK1 million to NOK129 million.

EBITDA before other items stood at NOK462 million (NOK389 million), while total operating profit rose to NOK268 million (NOK226 million), with Canal Digital DTH and Norkring exhibiting the strongest growth.

Telenor Broadcast ended H1 with 979,000 DTH TV subscribers, down from 997,000 at the end of 2010 and 1,039,000 in mid-2010.

Its cable TV subscriber total meanwhile stood at 227,000, down from 233,000 at the end of 2010 and H1 2010.

Cable TV internet access was also down slightly over the same periods, by 1,000 to 22,000.

In Norway, the company ended Q2 with 503,000 DTH subscribers, or 1,000 more than three months earlier.

There was a revenue reduction in satellite broadcasting at Canal Digital that was partly compensated by increased revenues outside the Nordics, particularly within CEE Broadcasting.
