The Russian DTH platform Tricolor TV has become the first in the country to start using geocoding technology.
This allows it to limit reception of TV channels that do not have federal licences to particular regions.
Tricolor TV first announced its intention to broadcast 64 region TV stations using geocoding technology back in February. The first phase will be implemented in the central part of Russia, which is covered by Eutelsat W4 and W7 satellites, while the inclusion of regional channels in its Siberian service is currently under discussion.
Tricolor’s subscription fees will not be affected by the introduction of the technology.
