Liberty Global-backed UPC Romania has issued a written statement denying that the company is to be sold to RCS&RDS.
According to ZF, the statement came in the form of an email that said the company has not held any talks with RCS&RDS about a possible transaction.
Only last week, Bogdan Chiritoiu, the head of the country’s Competition Council, revealed that discussions between both parties had taken place, though only on a consultative basis.
There have been strong rumours about a possible deal, worth some $300 million (€213.2 million), for several months.
Should it ever go ahead, RCS&RDS would significantly strengthen its already dominant position in the pay-TV sector, raising its subscriber total to some 4 million.
