The number of fixed broadband connections in Spain rose by 6.9% to 10,880,951 in the year to May 2011, according to data published by the regulator CMT.
The fastest growth was seen in FTTH, with take-up increasing by 197.1% over the year, though still to a modest 90,258.
DSL accounted for the lion’s share of connections (8,8775,587), up 6.5% on a year earlier, followed by cable modems (2,015,106), up 5.9%.
Telefónica claimed 51.35% of the fixed broadband market as of this May, with cable operators accounting for 19.52% and others 29.13%.
