Josip Popovac has been elected the first chairman of the Croatian public broadcaster HRT.
Local reports say he won 11 out of 16 votes cast at a joint meeting of its Programming Council and Supervisory Board, beating off competition from four other candidates.
Popovac has said that HRT will now focus on attracting younger viewers.
However, he has also warned about financial instability at the station, which operates two main TV channels (HRT1 and HRT2), a satellite channel (HRT plus) and a FTA international service (Slika Hrvatske).
