The Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) has announced new agreements regarding the international media rights for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. This week the marketing subsidiary DFL Sports Enterprises (DFL SE) completed deals in Europe and world-wide for the three seasons from 2012/13 to 2014/15.
The pan-European sports channel Eurosport, which broadcasts the Bundesliga in 22 countries on Eurosport, has additionally secured the exclusive media rights for the Netherlands. In Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands), the current Bundesliga broadcaster Setanta Sports Australia will become the league’s direct contract partner. The sports rights agency MP & Silva was rewarded the rights for Belgium, Vietnam and Japan.
The DFL SE will individually market the rights in the coming months for seven countries in southeast Asia (Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Macao, Myanmar, the Philippines and Taiwan).
“The results of the bid invitation underscore our double digit percentage growth. We are increasingly entering agreements directly with broadcasters with whom we aim to build long-term, valuable partnerships. We are therefore confident that we will successfully market the remaining rights in southeast Asia individually,” said DFL SE managing director Jörg Daubitzer, in a statement.
