The Irish public broadcaster RTE’s wholly owned subsidiary RTENL plans to procure a DTT digital TV head end system that would be capable of statistical multiplexing a minimum of six SD and one HD digital channels.
Following a long period of delays, Ireland became one of the last countries in Western Europe to launch a DTT service when it gave a debut to Saorview (‘Freeview’) late last month.
Operated by RTE, it offers a total of eight TV channels, a teletext service known as Aertel and radio stations from the broadcaster.
Ireland is expected to complete ASO in 2012, though no precise date has yet been announced.
