The Polish incumbent telco TPSA has been fined by the European Commission for anti-competitive behaviour in the provision of internet services.
Quoted in Rzeczpospolita, Joaquin Almunia, EC’s vice president and commissioner responsible for competition, said the telco would have to pay €127.5 million, equivalent to 3% of its annual revenues.
The amount is comparable to the €150 million fine imposed on Telefónica four years ago for a similar infringement, though could have been up to 10% of TPSA’s annual revenues.
TPSA now has two months to appeal the decision. Otherwise, it has three months to pay up.
The EC’s decision relates to the telco’s activities between August 2005 and October 2009, when it was deemed to have prevented alternative carriers from entering the broadband market.
