The cable company NextGen has become one of the main drivers for new TV and internet subscribers for the Romanian incumbent telco Romtelecom.
According to ZF, NextGen ended last year with 138,223 TV subscribers, or 110,982 (+407%) more than a year earlier.
Although Romtelecom’s DTH operation Dolce had 885,804 subscribers at year’s end, this was only 2,005 (0.2%) more than at the end of 2009.
Dolce Interactiv, Romtelecom’s recently launched IPTV service, meanwhile claimed 29,600 customers at the end of 2010.
Romtelecom also had a total of 1,013,445 internet subscribers at the end of 2010, with NextGen claiming 66,499, or 349% more than a year earlier.
NextGen was launched in 2008 and has grown gradually in a cable market dominated by RCS&RDS and UPC.
