Radio 538 TV, the television offspring of Holland’s most popular hit music radio station, will launch on Monday, July 4 as part of the extended digital tier on UPC Nederland. Negotiations with other operators are underway, with Ziggo as the most likeley cabler to start carrying the channel.
The launch of the channel comes at a time when pure music clip channels are losing audiences to the on-demand music videos that are available on the internet. So, Radio 538 TV will not be a music channel, but “real propgrammes with our jocks”, according to managing director Jan Willem Brüggenwirth.
In the original announcement of the TV channel, Brüggenwirth said that also footage from the many live events that the radio station organises will be shown.
Radio 538 is part of RTL Nederland, who also recently acquired tge Slam!FM radio station and Slam!TV music video channel.
The TV channel of the radiostation was already announced in November 2009.
