Crime & Investigation comes to Ziggo

June 16, 2011 06.08 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Crime & Investigation Network is launching in The Netherlands on July, 4 with cable operator, Ziggo, marking the debut of the channel in the Benelux.

Crime & Investigation Network will be available to Ziggo’s 2.1 million subscribers as ‘Channel of the Month’ in July. Crime & Investigation Network will be subtitled in Dutch, and a fully localised website will also launch on July 4. The channel is programmed and operated in the Netherlands by AETN UK, a joint venture of A+E Networks and BSkyB.

Tom Davidson, managing director for AETN UK, said in a statement: “We are delighted that Crime & Investigation Network is launching in the Netherlands. The launch on Ziggo is the first for Crime & Investigation Network in the Benelux region, but follows many successful launches by AETN UK in Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria and Croatia. There is significant consumer appetite for investigative programming so we have high hopes for this channel, which is already a high performer in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe. At AETN UK we look to engage new audiences with quality content that has credibility and great storytelling and aim to launch Crime & Investigation Network in new territories in the future.”

“Following the February launch of Crime & Investigation Network in Spain, we are very pleased to see the channel’s European expansion continue with this launch on Ziggo in the Netherlands,” said Dean Possenniskie, managing director, Europe for A+E Networks. “With its catalogue of innovative and compelling programs, Crime & Investigation Network has demonstrated tremendous appeal to TV audiences and platforms around the world, and we are confident this will extend to the Netherlands.”

Worldwide, Crime & Investigation Network reaches over 46 million households in more than 70 countries. Crime & Investigation Network debuted in Australia on Foxtel in 2005, and the channel launched in the UK in July 2006.

Crime & Investigation Network HD launched in the UK and Ireland on Sky’s HD platform in November 2008, and is the first international HD service for the brand.

Crime & Investigation Network is the third A+E Networks brand to launch in the Netherlands. AETN UK currently offers two channels in the market including flagship brand History and History HD, which launched in January 2008.
