On July 7, Dutch incumbent telecoms operator KPN will put 10 HD channels in the basic tier of its IPTV service Interactieve Televisie, but only for FTTH subscribers on fibre.
The move emphasises the advantages of fibre to the home connections with regards to the quality of the IPTV signals. As part of the upgraded service, KPN will also add more HD titles to its VOD catalogue.
The basic tier for FTTH now comprises all main public and private channels, Nederland 1 HD, Nederland 2 HD, Nederland 3 HD, RTL 4 HD, RTL 5 HD, RTL 7 HD, RTL 8 HD, SBS 6 HD, Net 5 HD and Veronica HD.
KPN has launched a promotional channel on its Digitenne DTT platform in order to promote the IPTV service.
Cable operator Ziggo is also beefing up the HD offer in its basic tier in an attempt to make HD the default means of watching TV.
