Having finally begun to consolidate earlier this year with the sale of Boom TV and AKTA Satelit to Romtelecom, Romania’s DTH market could be about to start growing again with the launch of a new platform.
Satellite monitoring services indicate that Eurobird at 16 degrees East has started to carry 12 Romanian channels.
Distributed in the clear by a company named eVision, they are the generalist Antena 1, National TV, Prima TV, Pro TV, Acasa TV and Kanal D Romania; sport GSP TV and Sport.ro; movie Pro Cinema in 16:9 format; music Sport.ro; news Realitatea TV; and OTV Romania, which offers mixed programming.
The Romanian DTH market is currently served by Dolce, Boom TV and AKTA TV, all of which are owned by Romtelecom, along with RCS&RDS’s Digi TV, the market leader, and Focus Sat, which is operated by Liberty Global.
