Cable networks in Estonia will only offer digital services by September 2012, according to the country’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications (MKM).
AKTR and the Russian version of ERR report that although 51% of TV homes in Estonia currently receive analogue cable services, the figure rises to 87% in Russian-speaking households.
They add that the transition to digital is already well under way in the cable industry, with the market leader Starman operating digital networks in the cities of Paide, Jõgeva and Põltsamaa.
Starman was founded in 1992 and its networks in total currently cover around 45% of Estonian households.
