Three years after the launch of the fulltime HD transmissions of its flagship channel, Austrian public broadcaster ORF has said that 700,000 people now watch their two HD channels.
ORFens (ORF1) was launched on digital satellite on June 2, 2008, with ORF2 following on December 5, 2009.
“The great success underlines that we were right to decide to broadcast ORFeins and ORF2 in HD-T,” said Dr. Alexander Wrabetz, general manager ORF, in a statement. About 10% of all Austrian viewers now watch the public service broadcasts in HD.
In order to make sure consumers buy the right TV set, the broadcaster is issuing a special ORF Digital certification for digital satellite receivers, both in SD and HD.
