Portugal Telecom’s IPTV service Meo has now reached a critical mass, the operator has said. An additional 46,000 subscribers were added in the first quarter, and although the increase is less than in 2010, the company is attributing the TV platform to the turnaround in its fixed line business.
As of March 31, 2011, Meo had 876,000 subscribers, equivalent to 85.9% of the fixed broadband retail customer base.
In its fourth quarter report on the Portuguese market, regulator Anacom said Meo had increased its pay-TV market share and fixed broadband market share for the past 11 consecutive quarters.
Meo has recently been growing its multiplatform strategy, adding 18 live TV customers to its MEO online service alongside a VOD offer.
