Kabel BW grows number of TV homes

May 26, 2011 10.52 Europe/London By Robert Briel

German cable operator Kabel BW said the total number of basic cable homes has risen by 23,000 (1%) during the past year to 2,322,000 on March 31, 2011. The number of pay-TV subscriptions grew by 98,00 to 308,000.

With a growth of around 147,000 customers, Kabel BW has increased the number of its internet and telephony customers since the end of March 2010 at 26% to 705,000. Only in the first quarter of 2011, the number of internet and telephony customers grew by 41,000.

The operator noted an extremely high increase of around 47% for its pay-TV business: With 98,000 additional subscriptions and rental boxes (RGUs) the total number rose to 308,000 (up from 210,000 on March 31, 2010). The cabler cites the success of HD receiver and HD-PVR rentals to its new Mein TV (My TV) bouquet and the successful cooperation with Sky.

The total number of subscribers rose to 2,368,000 to 2.316,000 in the 1st quarter of 2011. About 30 percent of all basic cable customers of Kabel BW now also buy internet access and telephony services.

Turnover (including other income) increased in the 1st quarter of 2011 by approximately EUR +17 million to €150 million (Q1 2010: €133 million). The average revenue per customer per month (ARPU) increased from €17.1 to EUR18.8. Adjusted EBITDA is €87 million, the company surpassed the previous year by 16% (Q1 2010: €75 million). The adjusted EBITDA margin improved to 58% (Q1 2010: 56%).
