The European Commission has confirmed that a national competition commission has asked for jurisdiction over Liberty Global’s plans to purchase Kabel BW. The most likely candidate is the German federal cartel office (Bundeskartellamt), though no confirmation has so far been forthcoming.
Liberty Global announced in March it will acquire Kabel BW, from the Swedish investment company EQT through a series of transactions for a total consideration of approximately €3.16 billion.
It already owns Germany’s second largest cable operator Unitymedia.
