Multimedia gains digital subs

May 12, 2011 10.25 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s third largest cableco Multimedia Polska ended the first quarter with 145,000 digital cable subscribers.

It also had 9,500 IPTV subscribers and 45,000 receiving premium channels, while its video RGU total (including 554,000 analogue customers) stood at 754,000.

Multimedia Polska’s digital cable subscriber figure was 44,000 up on the same period in last year, while the analogue figure was unchanged.

As of Q1 2011, 100,000 of its subscribers opted for triple play, compared with 236,000 double and 364,000 single play.

Commenting on ARPU, Multimedia Polska admits that “our video segment still fails to satisfy”, adding that “we have introduced price rises on our existing customer base in Q1 2011, which should bring the desired results from Q2 2011”.

As of the first quarter, digital video ARPU stood at PLN28 (€7.14), while analogue ARPU, though declining, was a higher PLN35.2.

Multimedia Polska’s revenues in Q1 2011 amounted to PLN148,658,000, 8% up y-o-y and 1% up q-o-q.

Growth was strongest in the digital cable and IPTV sectors, being 42% up y-o-y.

However, the operator’s net income of PLN20,411,000 in Q1 was 19% lower than the previous quarter and 5% less than 12 months earlier.
