France’s TDF is looking into the possibility of entering the Ukrainian DTT market.
Quoting the company, AKTR and Mediasat say that expressed a wish at the beginning of this year to meet with the minister of infrastructure, representatives of the National Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting in Ukraine (NTVCU) and Zeonbud, the operator of four of the country’s six planned DTT multiplexes, to discuss ways in which it could contribute to the digitisation process.
Although TDF has flatly denied it would like to take over Zeonbud, observers believe it would like to develop a DTT service in the country offering both FTA and paid services.
TDF has already played an instrumental role in DTT in Estonia, where it jointly owns the national transmission company Levira. Separately, the NTVCU is likely to withdraw the DTT licence for the multiplex MX-4 currently held by the company UDTVN.
