SES Astra is interested in supporting and participating in Romania’s transition to digital broadcasting, according to Martin Ornass-Kubacki, VP and chief regional officer, Astra CEE.
Speaking in a conference in Bucharest entitled Romania in High Definition organised by the Association of Digital Communications (ACD) and quoted by ZF, he added that Romania could have problems in the transition process if it only viewed things from the perspective of terrestrial TV signal distribution.
In Astra’s view, Romania will have over 50 HD channels by 2015, with more than 4 million homes receiving HD services and satellite the main means for their distribution.
He added that satellite should be seen as complementing rather than competing DTT.
Romania now expects to complete the transition to digital broadcasting in 2013.
