Cable TV could be looking forward to a golden future in Ukraine.
Quoting the publication Mediasat, ProIT reports that there are likely to be up to 10 million homes in the country receiving cable and IPTV services in five years time.
The number of homes watching live (terrestrial) TV is meanwhile predicted to be around 7 million and DTH homes between 3-4 million.
Broadband TV News’ take on this forecast is that cable, which is already well established, with Volia the undisputed market leader, can certainly expect to enjoy more growth in the next few years.
IPTV, on the other hand, is still in its early stages, while DTH broadcasting has had a difficult start, with two platforms – Poverkhnost Plus and MYtv– having closed in the last few months.
The latter is unprecedented and it will probably require a major change in the DTH market – perhaps the launch of a completely new platform to go head-to-head with Viasat Ukraine – to achieve such a high take-up.
