The German home shopping channel QVC has announced it will launch its HD version on September 1 as a free-to-air channel on the Astra position of 19.2 degrees East. Uplink and play out will be delivered by Astra Platform Services in Munich.
Wolfgang Elsäßer, managing director Astra Deutschland, said in a statement: “”We are delighted that QVC will be presenting its products through Astra in HD quality and we can now add another chapter in the success story of HDTV. Astra is the most attractive HD infrastructure with the highest reach and the first choice for viewers, who want to see the best programmes with the highest picture quality.”
QVC Deutschland is based in Düsseldorf and claims to be the biggest teleshopping company in the county with 3,500 employees, a choice of 18,000 articles and an annual turnover of €719 million. QVC HD will be the company’s third channel. It launched QVC Plus as its second channel in September 2010.
