The leading Czech film distributor Bontonfilm plans to expand to the internet at the end of this month by launch an online movie rental service named cinema.cz.
However, reports E15, it is at this stage unclear how the new service will look, given Bontonfilm’s recent acquisition by CME, the owner of the leading Czech broadcaster TV Nova.
The latter already operates its own online service, named voyo.cz, which gives viewers access to 140 movies, along with TV series, for CZK26-80 (€1.08-3.32).
Bontonfilm’s big advantage is that it has agreements with a number of leading companies including 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Universal and Dreamworks.
It had sales of CZK524 million and a 35% share of the Czech film distribution market last year.
