Swiss-based Zattoo has announced the launch of an iPad app for streaming web TV in Germany.
The introduction follows a short test in February of this year, which offered access to the TV channels via Apple’s browser Safari via iPod Touch, iPhone and the iPad. The app is only available for iPads and can only be used with Wi-Fi.
The app comes with a price tag of €3.99 for one month, €9.99 for three months or €29.99 for 12 months.
The offer includes channels from public broadcasters such as ARD Das Erste, ZDF, all so-called ‘third channels’ from ARD, Arte, Phoenix and BR Alpha. The private channels are restricted to Das Vierte, Sport 1 and iMusic, as apparently no deal could be reach with the two big commercial broadcasters, RTL Group and ProSiebenSat.1. A few international channels, among them CNN and Al Jazeera, are also included.
The app is available from the iTunes store. The service can also be used to view the channels on a regular TV set using the AirPlay functionality and an Apple TV set-top box.
People also have access to an EPG, which is delivered by Axel Springer’s TV Digital, which is also a co-branded partner on the service. For the moment, the service is only available in Germany.
