The Norwegian Media Authority is inviting applications for a temporary construction licence to run DMB transmissions in the capital Oslo.
The authority has already received an application for an extension to a temporary construction licence for the broadcast of mobile TV between July 1, 2011 and July 1, 2013. It now wants to open up the process to any other interested companies.
Norway’s three leading broadcasters, NRK, TV2 and MTG, set up a joint company to launch mobile TV services via DMB and have been running a test service since July 2009.
Applications should be with the Authority by May 2, 2011.
Mobile TV continues to post mixed reviews and the Authority is warning applicants that any licence may not be extended. In Ireland, a licensing process for mobile TV was suspended due to lack of interest while in the Netherlands KPN recently announced it was axing its DVB-H mobile TV service.
