Over 90% watching digital TV in France

April 7, 2011 10.57 Europe/London By Julian Clover

The latest round of the CSA’s ongoing study into digital television reception have revealed nine out of ten households in France have a least one TV set for viewing digital TV broadcasts.

l’Observatoire de l’équipement des foyers pour la réception de la télévision numérique said that of the areas scheduled to complete analogue switch-off in 2011, only 6.1% of households were still reliant on terrestrial analogue broadcasts, this was particularly acute amongst those over the age of 70.

In areas where ASO completed in 2010 (Alsace, Basse-Normandie, Bourgogne, Bretagne, Champagne-Ardenne, Centre, Franche-Comte Lorraine, Poitou-Charentes, Pays de la Loire), over 4 of 5 secondary televisions are capable of receiving digital transmissions.

This increase in household equipment to receive digital television is supported by the transition to digital has affected 4.8 million households in the second half of 2010 and 9.1 million households throughout the year 2010.

Since 1 January 2011, 9.8 million households have moved to digital. In addition, 7.9 million households will be moved to digital on the last eight areas that are scheduled for conversion between May 10 and November 29, 2011.
