Platform ‘n’ adds NatGeo HD

April 5, 2011 13.11 Europe/London By Robert Briel

MIPTV 2011 – CANNES. In a strategic partnership between Platform ‘n’ and Fox International Channels Poland, the National Geographic Channel HD will join Poland’s satellite platform line-up on April 5. With the addition of National Geographic in HD, Platform ‘n’ will expand its subscriber offering to 26 HD channels, more than any other satellite pay television provider in Poland.

Platform ‘n’ has also secured over 20 hours of National Geographic Channel 3D content and will premiere the films on both its 3D channel, Poland’s first regular service nShow3D, and video on demand, also beginning on April 5.

“This partnership is of strategic importance since it strengthens our position as the premium HD and 3D content provider in the Polish marketplace,” said Christian Anting, COO of Platform ‘n’ in a statement, “We are pleased to be working with our partners at Fox International Channels Poland as the National Geographic Channel brand and its award winning documentary content will be available as a linear channel in HD. The new 3D content will be available on our nShow3D service and in our video on demand offer. With the best HD picture quality and the most HD channels available, Platform ‘n’ will transform viewer’s television entertainment experience.”

From the National Geographic 3D production pipeline, nShow3D will debut The Eye 3D, providing viewers with a fascinating view from the most powerful optic telescope in the world. Blowdown 3D follows a team of explosive demolition experts as they implode iconic structures. The Meerkats 3D programme gives viewers an even closer look at the ups and downs of family life of these universally popular creatures and their nature habitat. Polar Bears 3D reveals footage of a mother and her baby polar bear.
