MIPTV 2011 – CANNES. Sundance Channel Global is to launch on Telefónica’s IPTV service Movistar Imagenio in Spain. Having made its debut in just one country less than two years, Spain will now become the ninth territory it is present in.
The carriage deal was announced at MIPTV in Cannes by Rainbow Media Global senior VP, international distribution Edward Palluth and Telefónica’s audiovisual services manager Ignacio Fernandez-Vega.
“Spain represents a significant launch for Sundance Channel Global and is a logical next step in our progression throughout Europe,” said Palluth, in a statement. “We look forward to working with Movistar Imagenio, a powerful leader in its space, to provide subscribers with Sundance Channel’s unmatched line-up of dynamic original programming and content platform solutions.”
Effective June, 1, Movistar Imagenio viewers will receive Sundance Channel Global as part of the service’s family package. Additionally, Movistar Imagenio will offer both SD and HD versions of Sundance Channel on demand. Rights of this deal also include mobile authenticated streaming.
“Sundance Channel Global provides our subscribers a unique opportunity to consume high-quality, compelling original programming on a variety of platforms,” added Telefónica’s Manager Ignacio Fernandez-Vega. “We are excited to share these unique offerings with our audience.”
