iConcerts heads for Korea Telecom

April 4, 2011 08.31 Europe/London By Robert Briel

MIPTV 2011 – CANNES. Swiss-based Transmedia has announced a deal with IPTV operator kt (formerly Korea Telecom) to launch its iConcerts HDTV channel for the first time in Korea.

This marks the first time the iConcerts HDTV broadcast channel will be available to the Korean public following the approval of its broadcast licence by the KCC (Korea Communications Commission) earlier this year.

With the launch scheduled for May, 1, 2011, the iConcert’s live channel will be distributed only via kt’s N-Screen Service including IPTV, Online, Tablet PC, mobile and other devices based on wired and wireless telecommunication services.

Korean audiences will be able to enjoy live music concerts available via the iConcerts channel, from artists such as Beyoncé – I am… World Tour, Bon Jovi – The Circle Tour, Lenny Kravitz – V Festival 2008 and Santana – Hymns For Peace, to mention just a few.

Olleh is the name given to kt’s BI(Brand Identity), which also incorporates OTV (Olleh TV – Live channel and VOD, Interactive service), and kt’s multi-window services based on the operators wire and wireless internet services and devices such as smart phone, SOIP phone, tablet PC, online and more.

“We are very pleased to have a partnership with the unique live music channel iConcerts, who provide high quality programming on our platform. With the iConcert’s channel expertise as an international music broadcaster, we are confident that iConcerts will help to make kt’s multi-window line up, Olleh N-Screen, even stronger and more competitive,” said Dongsoo Park, managing director for content and media business unit of kt.

“South Korea is at the forefront of the digital media revolution, with operators always on the look-out for new digital products and brands to provide extra value to their audience. kt is an ideal partner to be the first to provide our innovative HD live music channel to Korean audiences,” said Etienne Mirlesse, Transmedia CEO.
