Sogecable retains Spanish pay-TV lead

Sogecable ended 2010 as the leading provider of pay-TV services in Spain, claiming a market share of 41.3%.

However, according to figures published by the regulator CMT, its total number of subscribers was, at 1,773,806, lower than the 1,845,805 recorded a year earlier.

ONO was in second place with 960,198 subscribers and a 22.3% market share, followed by Telefónica (794,175, 18.3%), GoITV (346,712, 8.1%) and TeleCable (139,117, 3.2%).

The total number of pay-TV subscribers stood at 4,296,434, up from 4,077,604 a year earlier.

Sogecable also had the highest revenues in Q4, accounting for 63.9% of the €398.53 million total. However, the latter figure was down on the €404.82 million posted for Q4 2009.

DTH accounted for 1,772,856 of the 4,296,434 pay-TV customers in Spain in Q4 2010, followed by cable (1,321,450), IPTV (854,466) and DTT (347,662).

Mobile TV contributed a further 515,759 to what was a grand total of 4,812,193 customers receiving pay-TV services via TV or their mobiles.
