Bulgaria’s TV ad market is expected to bounce back strongly this year after a slump in 2010.
Quoted in Novinite, Krassimir Guergov, the head of the Bulgarian Association of Advertising Agencies, said TV ad spend fell by 10.5% year-on-year in 2010 despite gross revenues being roughly the same as a year earlier.
However, it should grow by between 7% and 10% in 2011, given sales trends seen in the first two months of this year.
The only ad sector to grow in 2010 was the internet, which increased 5% year-on-year. However, it still only accounted for 4% of the total ad market, with TV the dominant medium (65%) and the press in second place (16%).
Total ad spend in Bulgaria in 2010 amounted to BGN329.18 million (€186.27 million), or 13.9% less than a year earlier.
This compared with a reduction of 27% in 2009, at the height of the global economic crisis.
