Adobe Systems has launched a new authentication system designed to allow pay-TV subscribers easy access to premium content from a variety of internet enabled devices. The technology is looking towards the increasing multiscreen dimension typified by TV Everywhere.
The Adobe Pass allows viewers to access content across multiple websites with a single sign-in without the need for additional downloads.
Typically Adobe Pass works on the Flash Platform, combining with Adobe Flash Access for enhanced security. Adobe Pass also utilises HTML5 for devices where Adobe Flash technology is not yet available.
“By extending the richness and ubiquity of the Flash Platform to premium TV content, we’re providing pay TV subscribers the capability to view premium content online,” said Pritham Shetty, vice president for Rich Media Solutions, Adobe. ”The robust back-end technology of Adobe Pass makes getting premium content online a seamless process for content owners, pay TV providers and most importantly, audiences.”
The system has already received the backing of a number of leading US broadcasters and platforms including Turner Broadcasting System Inc., MTV Networks, Comcast and Synacor (on behalf of DISH Network’s DISHOnline.com and others).
Technology partners include Brightcove and Limelight Networks.
