GfK has given an emphatic yes to the question as to whether 3D television sets will be a success. The market researcher said that following sales of 200,000 3DTVs in 2010 it was now possible to speak of a successful market penetration with further growth potential.
GfK is now predicting that the number of 3DTVs sold will exceed one million in 2011. “It is also positive to see that the sales of 3D Blu-ray Players, 3D AV Receivers and 3D Home Theatre Sets are developing in parallel to 3DTV Set sales,” the company said in a statement, adding that it expected German consumers to use 3DTV to develop their home cinema systems.
Similar figures of 140,000 recorded in the UK were regarded as disappointing by market watchers.
