RTE has launched its public information campaign in the lead up to Ireland’s digital switchover. The Saorview DTT service will consist primarily of channels from the public broadcaster following successive failures to interest the commercial sector.
The St Patrick’s Day advertising campaign will launch on TV, radio and online. A local rate telephone support line has been introduced and the Saorview website has been refreshed.
Mary Curtis, director of digital switch over, RTÉ, said the Saorview service itself would launch at the end of May.
The planned channel line up is as follows: RTÉ One, RTÉ Two HD, TV3, TG4, RTÉ News Now, 3e, RTÉjr, RTÉ One + 1 and RTÉ Digital Aertel.
Commercial services have not been entirely abandoned. In February the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) said it would seek expressions of interest from content providers interested in joining the platform.
