Turner Broadcasting has given approval for a second season of its European-originated The Amazing World of Gumball before the first episode of the Cartoon Network show has even been premiered.
Gumball, which came out of the UK-based Cartoon Network Development Studio, has been produced in London and animated at Boulder Media in Ireland (with 3D elements from Studio Soi in Germany). It is scheduled to make its international debut on Cartoon Network in the UK on May 2. In the United States the full series will run from May 9, as part of Cartoon Network’s primetime Monday evening comedy block. A full first season run is slated for the fourth quarter that will air on Cartoon Network in 166 countries.
“There is a fantastic appetite for high-quality, narrative-driven comedy animation amongst children’s audiences around the world, and with The Amazing World of Gumball, we are helping to fill that gap,” said Michael Carrington, chief content Officer, Turner Broadcasting. “I’m thrilled to have greenlit this second series before we’ve launched the first – it is a tremendous accolade to our cast and crew who have created an amazing show”.
The Amazing World of Gumball follows the misadventures of 12-year-old Gumball and his family. The cast of characters includes a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana.
Production on the second series is expected to commence in June.
