Although pay-TV services are widely received throughout Romania, internet take-up remains low, particularly in rural areas.
Results of a Gallup survey undertaken in 2010 and published by ZF show that 78% of the approximately 3.5 million rural households had no internet access and 48% no computer.
In the country as a whole, 56% had no internet access. RCS&RDS claimed 45% of the fixed line internet market, followed by Romtelecom (24%) and UPC (12%).
RCS&RDS also had a 42% share of the TV market, with UPC in second place (16%) and Romtelecom third (15%).
Significantly, two in three (68%) of homes in Romania were served by cable.
