UPDATED – MARCH 16. Ziggo, Holland’s largest cable operator, has added NHK World TV to its basic digital bouquet. The Japanese public broadcaster has turned the international English language channel into an all-news service following the earthquake and tsunami.
Over the weekend, Journaal 24, the Dutch all-news channel from the public broadcasters, also carried the Japanese channel for some time. NHK in addition runs a video feed on its intertnational website.
A few weeks ago, UPC Nederland added Al Jazeera English temporarily to its digital line-up in order to give subscribers the opportunity to follow events in the Arab world.
Both channels are also available free-to-air on satellite in Europe.
UPDATE – March 16. Dutch cabler CAIWay has also decided to distribute NHK World TV as part of its basic digital tier. In Germany, cabler Unitymedia has added the international Japanese channel JSTV to its line-up. The operator serves a large Japanese community in the city of Dusseldorf.
