New DTH platform for Poland

March 11, 2011 07.47 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Celesat PolskaPoland is likely to have a further DTH platform by the end of this year. Operated by the Cypriot company Celesat Multistream Vision (CMV), its offer will include over a dozen channels in HD, some of which will be proprietary services hitherto not available to Polish viewers.

According to Satkurier, CMV has yet to decided whether to apply for a Polish licence, Nor has it decided which satellite to employ to distribute its service.

However, the company has already been working on content for almost a year and struck agreements with several distributors. It also plans to launch nine channels later this year that will form the basis of its offer.

These channels will be Celesat 1 HD, which will be FTA and also available in SD; Celesat HD Classic, offering movies and series from the 80s and 90s; Celesat HD Cinema; Celesat HD Music; Celesat HD Strong; Celesat HD Lifestyle, aimed at female viewers; Celesat HD World, documentaries and travel; Celesat HD Kids; and Celesat Interactive.

Three more channels – Celesat HD News, Celesat HD Sport and Celesat Anime-chan – are planned for 2012.

CMV, which is backed by Celesat Media Network and Multistream Vision International, will enter a market already serviced by Cyfrowy Polsat, Cyfra+, n, TNK and TP, which have a combined total of over 5 million subscribers.
