Starmax reveals content line-up

March 9, 2011 08.55 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Details have been released of some of the channels that will appear on the new Starmax pay-as-you-go DTH platform in Spain. The new entrant, which will compete against the incumbent Digital+, will commence transmission on March 15.

In HD, Starmax will carry Discovery World, Eurosport and MGM. Discovery World, which is making its debut in the Spanish market will cover a variety of topics ranging from history to archeology, travelogue, crime, nature and adventure. “The launch of Discovery HD World is a major stake in a key market for us,” commented Marinella Soldi, General Manager of Discovery Networks, Southern Europe. “After the huge success of Discovery Channel, we firmly believe this new approach to the contents of non-fiction entertainment for the whole family. We are also very pleased to be part of the new platform Starmax HD, which we hope to invigorate the market for pay television in Spain.”

There are also some familiar names in standard definition. These include BBC Entertainment, FilmBox, FilmBox España, KidsCo, CTK, XTRM, SOMOS and Natura. “We intend to provide a pay-TV channel offering with the highest quality and an attractive entertainment offering, all at a very affordable price,” said Maciej Sojka, managing director, Starmax HD.

Local reports have suggested Starmax will use the Hispasat 1E satellite (30 degrees West), but this has yet to be confirmed by Starmax itself.
