Sky Deutschland has announced it surpassed the 1 million HD subscriber mark. A remarkable feat, as the company reported on Thursday, February 24 that it had 593,000 HD homes on December 31, 2010.
However, the figure of 1 million HD viewers includes all Sky subscribers who are able to view HD channels on their receiver, not those who actuallt buy one or all of the HD premium services.
Four HD channels are available in the basic Sky Welt tier, Discovery HD, National Geographic HD, History HD and Eurosport HD. The German Sky TV service offers a total of 11 HD channels, 12 when Sky Sport News HD is added later this year. The offer also includes the country’s first 3D channel, Sky 3D.
Additional HD premium channels are the movie channels Sky Cinema HD, Disney Cinemagic HD, Sky Action HD and Sky Cinema Hits HD and the sports channels Sky Sport HD 1, Sky Sport HD 2, ESPN America HD.
In a statement, Brian Sullivan, CEO, Sky Germany, said: “I would like to thank our customers for the overwhelming response to our HD offer. Exceeding the threshold of 1 million HD customers confirms that our customers appreciate the excellent quality of Sky HD.”
Later this year, Sky Deutschland will launch Sky Sport News HD.
