Portugal Telecom’s Meo IPTV offer continues to perform for the incumbent telco, the platform now declaring a market penetration of 30%.
An additional 249,000 subscribers were added during 2010, 61,000 in the final quarter of the year, taking the installed base to 830,000. The figure represents an 82.9% penetration of PT’s fixed line broadband.
Heavy competition, particularly with former PT subsidiary Zon, means Meo continues to innovate. Its EPG was redesigned during 2010 and its VOD catalogue now boasts over 2,500 titles. In the fourth quarter access to the VOD catalogue was extended to the PC through Meo Online. Meo customers can rent and watch movies at home on the TV or anywhere on the PC.
55% of the subscriber base has now purchased VOD movies on the platform.
Meo Jogos is a new service for gaming enthusiasts, offering titles from Activision, Atari, Disney, Capcom, Codemasters, THQ and Strategy First, without the need for a dedicated console. Meanwhile, Music Box provides an integrated service for mobile phones, PCs and TV, which Meo says is an example of its multiscreen capabilities.
