Sky Deutschland has joined the association of fibre companies (Buglas) as an associate member.
“Fibre optic networks are regarded as the guide net of the future, as only fibre can meet the future bandwidth requirements,” said Ronald Fiedler, director of commercial distribution, Sky Deutschland. “It is our goal to provide more and more people in Germany with our outstanding entertainment portfolio, especially the complete range of HD and 3D channels. To make this possible, efficient networks are a crucial requirement. ”
Buglas is committed to better knowledge sharing and technology transfer between the parties. “By joining Buglas Sky wants to bring innovation to this important project,” said Fiedler. “Internet-based services such as VOD or web applications for iPhone and iPad are becoming increasingly important for Sky It is therefore a natural step for us, to support companies that drive the necessary infrastructure in Germany.”
The announcement follows an earlier deal between Sky and Deutsche Telekom, whereby the incumbent operator will feed Sky’s signals via its backbone infrastructure to wholesale clients.
